My Greatest Sports Baseball Moment – OHS017

A close up of a child's baseball mitt catching a fly ball.

Here is AlejAndro catching a baseball as a child and center fielder. It is the all things you do not see that makes this one of the greatest sports baseball moments in his life.

Where I grew up Little League baseball was king. In fact, baseball was one of the most popular sports for boys at that time. Or at least it was for me. I think I started playing baseball when I was five or six years old. My childhood was forged by the friendships built and the competition played to win and to lose. Some of my most fondest memories came from playing baseball or by the people who were a part of that part of my life. So many of my childhood and life long friends played baseball. We played on the same teams, against one another, watched professional baseball on TV and watched the local games that mattered. It was a family and community affair. The mother worked the concession stand while many of the fathers coached the teams.

I always dreamed of being a professional baseball player. And though I make it sound like as if my childhood playing baseball was all apple pie and smiles, it was not. I was treated very badly and unfairly by many adults and many kids my age said many bad things about me and my one handed body. And I certainly dropped my fair share of game winning balls and struck out  when the big game was on the line. But life is about choice! And I choose to look at the good things I have accomplished living this one handed life.

Sometimes the greatest moments in our lives are overlooked because we think we did not live the life we wanted or expected. We all have great moments in life. And if you played sports in your youth I am sure you have your great sports moments. In this podcast I share with you my greatest sports baseball moment.
